Beware of these Common Pitfalls of Success as You Elevate.

The Journey With Dominic Lintrell. (A Quick Note)
The Journey With Dominic Lintrell. (A Quick Note)

Just sharing a quick note.

There’s this saying that only a fool learns from his own mistakes. If you pause long enough to study the men who have fallen you’ll notice a few patterns amongst them. You know I can’t help but study the world around me, so let’s unpack this together.

1st and foremost if you are reading this I am certain of two things:

1. You know what you want out of life or at least have a sense of direction & 2. You are no fool.

NUMBER 1: Become the Master of Your Urges

What you do not master, you are a slave to. It would be wise to figure out how to control your sexual desires. If you look at the list of disgraceful politicians, businesspeople, & leaders who were once great, they lost the battle against their urges. Losing this battle will drive you to make decisions that are hard to recover from. Being driven by your lower desires causes you to have a lapse in decision making. If you don’t believe me look at the long list of people who have ruined their marriages, households, and companies over not having self control. Only a fool would spend years building something only to watch his efforts blow in the window from a decision that could have been avoided. If you choose to stay single just keep in mind not every person you meet is worth laying next to. Not everyone stands to lose in the same manner as you do.

NUMBER 2: There’s a Thin Line Between Generosity & A Frivolous Giver

Overgiving is the equivalent to draining the blood from your body to save others. A common theme amongst people who suddenly came into money is this sudden pressure to save everyone around them. Look at those who instantly started putting people on when they made it ie sports figures and lottery winners. Give yourself time to enjoy your resources solo before instantly helping and donating to others. You’ve earned the right to do so. Also, I learned from studying wealthy people that when you do give, give from the interest you earned, not from your principle. Its the equivalent to giving from your overflow.

NUMBER 3: No story ends well with heavy drug use

If you look around there’s no shortage of drugs you can choose from. Molly, Perks, Heroin etc. Inside corporate America I’ve seen executives do coke. Outside of corporate America many smoke weed. Whatever your drug of choice is and what you do behind closed doors is none of my concern. However, when your drug becomes something you MUST do in order to function that’s a territory that often leads to a crash at some point. You no longer use the drug, the drug is using you. As you elevate, having more resources will simply give you unlimited access to whatever drug you desire. Manage or remove your desire for drugs, or you risk impacting what you’ve built, and also those you love. Recognize your decisions often impact others beyond you.

NUMBER 4: Comfort causes you to let your guard down

Comfort is the one drug without a taste. I don’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy the fruits of your labor or relax, I’m saying the moment you get complacent is the moment you stop growing. There’s always room for improvement. In your love life, relationships, skills, business, parenthood etc. As the world around us evolves you must evolve also. The moment you stop working towards growth is the moment you slowly wither away. There’s a reason many people who retire and sit around all day have health issues and die early. They no longer have something or someone to live for. Constant growth gives you something to look forward to.

NUMBER 5: Don’t Be Surprised If You Come Across People Who Want to Compromise You

I talk often about having your own principles and values you live by. It’s not about being rigid, it’s about having boundaries as you evolve. If you drive through the mountain you will see the cliff has guardrails. They’re not there to trap you, they are there to keep you from causing harm to yourself and others. You may not always be able to accurately judge people's intentions around you, just try your best. Know when saying no or taking a loss is better than compromising yourself. Not every opportunity is worth it if it will cost you more than money.

If you can overcome your sexual desires, overgiving, drugs, comfort, & getting away from your values,  I’m certain you have a good chance of not only making it, but enjoying the longevity of your efforts.

Don’t just read these words, internalize them.

Be Wise.

Dom,
